Thanksgiving 2016 is that special holiday we at LifeChronicles will never forget. When Tracy called two days before Thanksgiving asking us to film her dying husband, we asked if she could wait til Sunday and she began to cry. That was all we needed to hear…we immediately put together travel details to get Kate from Santa Barbara to Boston on Thanksgiving Day. When she arrived at Tracy and Joe’s home, their oldest boy was dressed in his Batman costume and allowed Kate to interview “Batman.” He described how his brother, “Robin”, was going to go with him to the Bat Cave where they had “special medicine” to help their daddy. In that moment, Kate knew that when the boys grew up the video would give them a beautiful memory of how much they loved and wanted to help their daddy.
Joe and Tracy then gathered the boys in their arms and shared stories of their family and important messages that Joe wanted to impart to his sons. While a family friend took the boys to play in a nearby park, Joe and Tracy spent time sharing the story of how they met, their dreams as a couple and Joe’s wishes for his family’s future. They ended by speaking words of love to each other to always be remembered. It was clear that Joe was determined to have one more holiday memory with Tracy and the boys when he asked Kate to join them and film the meal. As Kate walked to the car to return home, Tracy hugged her and said “I don’t know you, Kate, but I love you.” Four days later Joe was gone… now each Thanksgiving, Tracy calls Kate to say,
“I don’t know you, but I love you.”
